I spent 35 years as a software engineer. I retired because I developed prostate cancer. Three years after I retired, my wife passed and left a hole in my life, causing me to look at my life. I am going back to school to become an architect and urban planner.
I have four degrees:
—Associate degree in Science and Mathematics from Mira Costa College in Oceanside, California, from 1971 to 1973
—Bachelor of Science in engineering technology from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California from 1973 to 1976
—Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Nebraska, from 1986 to 1989
—Master of Science degree in computer information systems from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska from 2004 to 2006
— working on a dual degree of Master of Architecture and Master in Community and Regional Planning with anticipating graduation in May 2030
I started working as a hardware engineer in 1977 but quickly became a software engineer by 1982. After moving to Bellevue in 1984, I went through a series of software projects at various companies until ending up with Crete Carrier Corporation, where I retired in 2017, ending my career as a Software Engineer. The projects were innovative software projects ranging from Small Hospital (under 50 beds) admission and billing packages to creating a service to purge old banking transactions (older than ten years). You can see more detail in my online resume. During this period, I moved three times, went through three wives, raised three children, and received a bachelor's and a master's degree.
