Platform Frame Construction
Physical Construction Model • Light-Wood Framing
- This project documents the step-by-step construction of a physical scale model demonstrating the principles of conventional platform-frame construction. Built over ten days, the model traces the construction sequence from the floor system and framed walls through roof trusses and sheathing.
- The model incorporates floor joists, wall framing, headers, diagonal bracing, and roof trusses, illustrating how individual components work together to transfer loads and maintain structural stability. Particular attention was given to framing around openings, lateral bracing, truss geometry, dimensional accuracy, and construction sequencing.
- Cutaway portions of the completed model leave the interior framing visible, allowing the structural relationships and assembly process to remain legible.
- The project demonstrates an applied understanding of construction sequencing, structural logic, material assembly, and craftsmanship, connecting architectural design with the physical systems required to construct a building.
